Chennai, Sep 30: ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India Limited has secured accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories for its Hemi Anechoic Chamber Testing Laboratory, located within ZF's approximately 200-acre state-of-the-art proving ground near Chennai. The accreditation makes the facility one of the few NABL-accredited Hemi Anechoic Chambers in India. The NABL accreditation is based on the internationally recognized ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard and serves as a formal recognition of a laboratory's technical competence, testing methodologies and quality management systems. It provides customers with confidence that test results are accurate, reliable, traceable and generated in accordance with globally recognized laboratory practices.
As vehicle technologies evolve through electrification and software-defined architectures, automotive manufacturers are placing greater emphasis on controlling noise and vibration characteristics to improve vehicle quality, customer comfort and regulatory compliance. The accreditation strengthens ZF to support requirements with accurate, repeatable and independently validated acoustic testing capabilities, while further enhancing the comprehensive testing and validation ecosystem available at its proving ground.
ZF's engineering infrastructure in India at Chennai is among a very few NABL-accredited Hemi Anechoic Chambers in the country. The recognition also positions ZF CVCS India as one among a select group of organizations capable of providing independently validated acoustic testing services that meet globally accepted laboratory standards, while supporting the growing validation needs of the automotive industry.
The Hemi Anechoic Chamber forms part of one of India's most comprehensive automotive validation ecosystems. The TÜV-certified proving ground, inaugurated in 2001 as India's first privately owned automotive proving ground, supports development, validation and homologation activities across two-wheelers, three-wheelers, passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles and off-highway applications.
The proving ground combines advanced acoustic testing capabilities with dedicated ABS/EBS braking tracks, ESC validation infrastructure, high-speed and gradient test tracks, EV charging facilities, workshop and instrumentation support. Together, these capabilities enable end-to-end vehicle and component validation within a single integrated environment. The facility today serves more than 50 customers, including leading OEMs, suppliers and technology partners.
The accreditation is valid through July 2030 and supports testing and validation requirements across a wide range of conventional and electrified vehicle technologies, including compressors, pumps, braking systems, steering systems, electric motors and electronic systems.
The 144 sq. m Hemi Anechoic Chamber can test vehicles up to five metres in length and 2.5 metres in height under controlled acoustic conditions. With background noise levels below 20 dBA and a 100 Hz cut-off frequency, the facility enables highly precise acoustic characterization and NVH evaluation for modern automotive systems and components.
The accredited laboratory further enhances ZF's validation ecosystem, supporting technologies ranging from active and passive safety systems to electrified propulsion solutions. By combining accredited NVH testing with vehicle dynamics, braking, stability control and durability validation capabilities, ZF helps accelerate development timelines and optimize product performance before vehicles enter series production. The facility supports acoustic testing and validation for braking systems, steering systems, air processing units, compressors, electric motors, electronic brake systems, inverters and other advanced mobility solutions, while also offering accredited testing services to external customers.
By expanding access to internationally recognized testing and validation infrastructure, ZF is helping customers bring safer, quieter and higher-quality vehicle technologies to market faster and more efficiently. For ZF, the capability further strengthens internal product development through more precise validation processes, increased engineering confidence and enhanced support for delivering advanced mobility solutions with high levels of acoustic performance, reliability and quality.
Through NABL's international mutual recognition framework, test reports generated by the accredited laboratory can be recognized across more than 100 countries, supporting customer development and validation programs intended for both domestic and international markets.
ZF's Chennai proving ground continues to serve as a key validation hub for next-generation mobility technologies, supporting customers across domestic and global markets with world-class testing, validation and engineering capabilities.
Paramjit Singh Chadha, Managing Director, ZF Commercial Vehicle Control Systems India Ltd, said:
"This achievement is an important milestone in our journey to build world-class engineering and validation capabilities in India. The NABL accreditation enables us to support customers with reliable, traceable and globally accepted testing services that help accelerate product development and validation across vehicle segments. It also reinforces the strength of our integrated proving-ground ecosystem and our commitment to delivering end-to-end, high-quality and innovative mobility solutions. As customer requirements continue to evolve, investments in advanced validation infrastructure such as this will play a critical role in enabling safer, quieter and more reliable vehicle technologies."
