Kolkata, May 25: There was something quietly exciting about watching a blank canvas turn into a world complete with its own atmosphere, logic, and emotional weight. That was exactly the kind of experience the School of Design at Bhawanipur Global Campus aimed to create with IMAGINELAND, an environment design and world-building workshop conducted as part of their Design Jam series.

Design Jam brought together workshops and seminars across game design, fashion, comics, and graphic storytelling. It emerged as an ambitious initiative designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the realities of today’s creative industries.
‘IMAGINELAND’ existed at the intersection of concept art and visual storytelling and was aimed at participants curious about how imagined spaces from brooding castles to alien cityscapes and fog-draped ruins were built from scratch for games and films. The workshop guided participants through environment design fundamentals, concept development, and the creative processes involved in making fictional spaces feel immersive and believable. The session included live demonstrations, guided exercises, and candid discussions around the practical realities of pre-production design.
The session was led by Pritam, an independent 2D digital illustrator known for his work in creature design and dark fantasy art. His artistic style drew heavily from the Souls-like genre, characterised by dense atmosphere, emotional unease, and haunting imagery. Working primarily within horror-inspired and immersive fantasy spaces, he had developed a distinct visual language over the years.
Dr. Sharmila Sinha, Principal of the School of Design, said,
“Design education becomes meaningful when students engage directly with practitioners who are actively contributing to contemporary creative industries. Through Design Jam, we are creating opportunities for students to experience the depth, discipline, and imagination that professional design practice demands.”
The initiative reflected the institution’s continued efforts to build meaningful industry engagement into its academic approach rather than treating it as an afterthought
